Remote Ink Notarization (RIN)

Many states implemented temporary or emergency orders during the COVID-19 pandemic authorizing remote ink notarizations (RIN). Several states have now enacted permanent Remote Online Notarizations (RON) but there are still a few states that only allow RIN. 

RIN transactions allow signing to take place remotely (the signer and the notary are in separate locations). The signer will sign in ink on paper while the notary witnesses the signature using live audio and visual technology. 

Epic River's platform can be leveraged to conduct RIN transactions.

1. Follow the same steps outlined for the notary signing session. 
2. When scheduling the meeting with the signer, ensure the signer will also have a paper version of the document during the session. 
3. When it's time for the signer to sign the document, have the signer ink sign the paper version of the document. Ensure the document signing can be witnessed on the video. 
   1. The electronic signing will still be completed using the Epic River platform but the paper document will be the legal version of the document. 
4. The paper version of the document will then be sent to the notary for ink notarization.
   1. Check your state requirements for acceptable methods of delivery - some states allow the documents to be mailed, other states allow for fax or electronic delivery. 
5. The ink notarized document will then be returned to the signer.
